Exit Velocity

Broken Compass

"The energy is real, but the songs need another draft."

Broken Compass have the attitude and the chops — Exit Velocity is a loud, energetic record that clearly comes from a band that loves playing live. The problem is that energy alone doesn't carry a full album. Several tracks here feel like they were written in the room and recorded before they were fully finished, with choruses that don't quite pay off the verses that set them up. The production is solid — the drums in particular sound great — and there are moments, especially on 'Redline' and the closer 'Fault Lines,' where everything clicks. But too much of the middle section feels like filler dressed up as urgency. The potential is obvious. The execution needs work. A more disciplined edit of this material could have been a genuinely strong record.
